Baptisms (Christening)

Celebrating the Baptism of your child

What is a Christening?

Your child is precious to you and precious to God. You want the very best for them, and so does God. You want them to make right choices in life, for themselves and for others. A christening is just the beginning of this and so much more.

When a child is baptised with water, they are welcomed into the family of the church. It also marks the start of a lifetime of discovery about the Christian faith and how life-changing that can be. It’s a journey of surprises, challenges and adventure. And through it all, God is always with us.

In the Baptism Service, you will promise to share this journey with your child by:

  • Being there for your child to talk to about the bigger questions of life – questions about hope, faith and love.
  • Praying for your child through the ups and downs of their faith journey.
  • Showing them practically how to make those good choices in life.
  • Helping them to learn more about their Christian faith, through becoming part of the church family and in other ways.

So it’s a commitment to start as you mean to go on.

Where to start?

If you’d like to explore getting your child baptised, then please fill in the enquiry form below or contact Fr Dominic, our vicar, directly and he will arrange to meet you and explore further. Please note there is no charge for baptisms.

Please note that baptisms are usually held around 2pm on Sunday afternoons but not in the season of Lent (usually mid February to beginning of April), although we are available any time in emergencies and can discuss other dates/times.
Some people choose to have their child christened as part of the
Sunday service, which is a joyful moment for everyone in church.
